An Introduction to Trauma, Child Development, & Child Welfare

About this Course:
Trauma is often about more than physical harm, environmental neglect, medical neglect or emotional neglect. Trauma also includes separation from a caregiver, a lack of a stable home and bouncing around or living in many different foster homes. The trauma portion of this course will provide a general overview of what is considered trauma, as well as some typical signs and symptoms that a child in your household may be having a trauma response.
Although all of our children have experienced some sort of trauma, they are also all developing children and will go through normal development while with us. The child development portion of this course will review what are normal developmental milestones, so that we do not automatically assume that the behaviors that our children display are always linked to their trauma history.
Who should attend:
All new hires who have not yet completed orientation and any SOS employees looking for an introductory-level overview of trauma, child development, the child welfare system, and the impact of these factors on our clients, workplace, and practices.
